State tobacco money

The Utah Attorney General’s Office announced Thursday that the state has received $ 42 million this week for its policy of settlement with tobacco manufacturers.

The latter amount is approximately $ 14.5 million more than the normal Utah $ 27.5 million in annual payments from tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.

“The $ 14 million additional notes efforts by the Attorney General’s Office take account of tobacco for the health system costs the State for tobacco-related diseases,” said Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, in a statement issued Thursday.

Manufacturers of tobacco, in the Multi-State Agreement municipal were flat rates paid to 46 countries since 2000. An independent auditor determines the payment on the basis of the market share of manufacturers of tobacco products to the USA

Shurtleff pointed out that the $ 42 million lump sum is equivalent to the AG’s Office of the entire annual budget.

Tobacco is the money to finance a number of programs, including the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), tobacco cessation and prevention programs, medical research at the University of Utah and consumption Drug courts.
